  • Xanga Lock!

We just rolled out the Xanga Lock feature.  You can turn it on to keep users who aren’t signed in out of your site!  Alot of users user javascript to keep anonymous users from viewing their site, but javascript solutions don’t work if javascript is disabled on the browser! This is foolproof, Enjoy!

  • good feature, though i won’t use it.

    Cheers!

  • Cool idea, don’t think I’ll use it though. I look at my page half the time not signed in! :)

  • just like diaryland.com!

  • A great feature. Replaces the JavaScript, which really slowed down the Xanga loading speed. (I think…?)

  • You guys just rock. Thanks for doing such a good job.

  • Have I mentioned, “thank you?”

  • great feature as a matter of fact. i noticed that many other sites had provides such a code but it’s main intentions are to link xangans to their website…bringing them in more traffic. i didn’t like the idea. i’m glad it’s up and running. thanks guys!

  • It seems many Xangans are using this feature now. I’ve found that if you stop the browser before it fully loads, you can still view some of the content of the person’s xanga. You might not be able to see photos, but you can still see the text. So, you like Mech Warriors…huh? I read about it on Joel’s xanga. You guys have so much fun at the office. Sometimes, I envy you guys for being able to find time in the day just to act like a child again. Take care.

  • Ok – You guys are the best!

  • Just wanted to add -

Now make a Xanga tracker. We all use them and you have finally and officially ok’d them. Now if only you would make a Xanga sanctioned one that worked and I didn’t have to worry about the weird codes I’m installing.

Xanga is the best and I love it!

  • A good idea, but you need to do something about the RSS feed:

    http://www.xanga.com/rss.aspx?user=xlocktest

  • Dave – thanks.

  • I’m begging you, and the rest of Xanga’s staff to create a way for us to downgrade our profiles to the old style. Many users feel that they like the old style better. As nice as the new features are, some of us just prefer the “bare-bones” Xanga.

    Thank you.

  • Is there a way to check and see who has been on my site?  Do you need premium for that?  I hear people say they track and see who visited their site but I dont know how to do that.

  • Thanks for the xanga lock !

    -rod

  • I really don’t like this feature.

  • i agree with jeb. pointless to do xanga lock if you don’t block the rss. Personally I’d like a feature to turn off the rss function (or if xanga is using it for something… ie search to only allow localhost/xanga referred pages to view it)
The idea is, to keep out bots and non-humans, but require readers to come to your site so potentially if you have a tracker (like we all do) you can tell exactly who is reading your blog.

Anyways, seems to work for the non-computer/internet literate, but not secure enough at the moment to be worth the hassle.

  • WOW! im useing it now lol it helps alot. thumbs up to your skills!

  • Thanks for the feature!
    ~Arwen~

  • All these new comments surged in at once. harusame said that we all have trackers. I don’t have one, but I’ve wanted one for a long time. Can you point me in a direction to get one please? Thanks so much!

  • Agreed about the RSS feed.  Is that in the works?

and…thank you for this feature.  It is appreciated.

  • I’m gonna look into the RSS feed. I will keep everyone updated on what we’ll do about that. If xanga lock is implemented on the RSS feed, it would effectively disable lots of RSS readers from getting that feed since those program would not be able to be logged into xanga. One solution that is possible is to allow users to set a code that would be required on the rss url for it to work, this way only people yourself and people who know the code would be able to get the feed. For example, rss.aspx?user=xlocktest&code=secret.

  • wow dude i dont think ur gonna read this but this one kid got me a tickette because i found away to get every password on the net he changed his password an blamed it on me said i got him jumoed an everything is there anything i can do leagely to get back at him ..?

  • In addition to this, how about a tag we can use in CLAF to embed the visitor’s username into the server generated HTML? The goal being that we could potentially use trackers without the need for javascript to be enabled. Or just go all the way and provide a native Xanga tracker.

  • Delete comments from CyrusYCW please. Better yet, remove this user. Site contains multiple exploits popups and spyware.

  • Hmm.

You know how there’s the option to block subscribers? Is it possible that you guys could just add a “delete” there as well?… I was just thinking that that’d be a good idea… considering someone subscribed to me and they got banned from xanga (or however you wish to phrase it) and I don’t see a reason to actually “block” them… yet it annoys me that they’re still on my list… [referring to the http://www.xanga.com/Private/Subscribers.aspx portion]

  • IS THIS JUST FOR PREMIUM USER?

  • Sakamura what the hell is wrong with you? Why are you constantly picking on me? Do you even know what a spyware is?

My site does not install spyware on other people’s computers, I am using xanga within rules limit, stop picking on other xanga users or I WILL report you to xanga officials, this is getting very annoying!

  • Oo_psychedelic_oO, no this is available for everyone! Goto http://www.xanga.com/private/editaccountprivacy.aspx to turn on your xanga lock.

  • Hey, thanks for your work! How long have you worked with Xanga? What languges do you primarily program in? How do xanga’s become ‘featured’?

  • i totally love the ddr dancing guy.
    C# is a blast.

  • yeah those first 18 comments are slightly frightening. hey i dont know if youre a xanga creator of some sort but i cant post an entry and its sorta bumming me out. heeeelp!

  • thanks for the feature! you rock, xoxo

  • I think it’s great. More for keeping Google and Other Permanent Weblogging/Caching/Indexing databases FROM storing people’s Xanga pages and Pictures forever and ever….

    illini alum

  • Any chance of adding something like this in the future?

    <!–
    location.replace(“NEW XANGA URL”);
    –>

  • Hey got any suggestions, someone hacked into my gf’s site and changed her password and now she can’t shut down her site so the person will leave her alone!?

  • So, I have a question…..For those of us who like to write very personal blogs, I know there’s a private/protected feature, but sometimes there are only certain xangans that we want to keep out of our site.  Is there anyway that you could add the feature of locking out users that you have blocked from your site as well, so that they cannot even read your page?

Something that popped into my head when I read about this, was just curious about it.

  • WOO HOO WOO HOO WOO HOO WOO HOO WOO HOO WOOO HOOO WOOO HOOO *breath* WOOO HOO WOO HOO WOOO HOOO WOOO HOOO *Breath* WOOO HOOO WOOO HOOO WOOO HOOO *falls on floor, whezing, passes out* WOOOoooo ….

  • awesome feature…but I wont use it, the only way I ever get people to join xanga is by showing them my page.

  • Thank you so much for this! Please is it possible to make the ones who will choose to visit our sites anonymously also blockable? I have a group that has created problems for almost 5 years now…and allowing them anonymous access to my site will not make my experiences better.

  • Hey! I love this feature and all but what about the new rss and xml feeds? Can you pleeeease put the lock on them as well. I’ve been looking at the new footprints and have noticed someone in the state of califorina that wants to see my site (who is Xanga locked out) and they’ve figured out that they can still read my posts through the rss link. This goes for everyone that has an account. Is there anything you can do to help?? Thanks

  • The feeble attempts the admin team have put in place in order to “protect” our posts between our PCs and your servers is a failure. The whole idea, in fact, is an admission that your service is unreliable.

Stop trying to reinvent the wheel and fight convention. Offer up a client side application where construct our posts, if you cannot ensure the integrity of your website/webservice/database.

In short; STOP FOSTERING AN ENVIRONMENT FOR THE LOSS OF POSTS.
