(but it smells a tad bit too much like MySpace. And wussup with the “nudge” thing? Haha it’s like a mix between facebook’s “poke” and MSN’s “nudge.”)
Seems like it’s geared more towards teenagers. That’s a lot of “personal” information out there. With that said, it still is kind of fun.
Agree it’s a bit Myspace-ish. Xanga should focus more on everyday use (option to thread comments & have more than 1 protected list) -especially for Premium members, since there isn’t much difference between paying & non-paying. But this is a cool addition.
heeeey, just upgraded!! It reminded me of myspace too, since it seems like your profile world is seperate from your blog world, I liked it better when they were more connected. And I miss my site layout being on my profile page. Oh well, it’s still beta I guess. It is fun having all those new thingies to fill out though.
ditto on having more than 1 protected list for premium members.
Nice idea.
I just don’t seen alot of the purpose in it. I rarely if ever look at people’s profiles. I think it’s their blogs that count the most in xanga.
-Sarah-
I’m interested to see what all you’ve put in this. I’m not certain just how much I’ll use it yet, but thanks for bringing us new stuff. And I also agree on multiple protected lists. I’d pay for that and nothing else if it was an option. Dr. Carasco

Too MySpacey for me taste. Bleh.
you’re probably going to hear taht like 50 million times.
awesome. great, spectacular, amazing, unbelievable and good too
haha, here’s my comment on the “myspace-ish” you’ll always look 1,000,000 times better than myspace! and if this isnt going to clutter up my xanga page, it’ll be just fine and i look forward to messing with it. myspace=clutter+zero design.
i love xanga.
-http://profile.xanga.com/edit/sentInvites.aspx -when i click on these friends that i have invited to be friends, xanga sends me to the front page. -wouldnt it be better if it send me to my friends’ page?
The profile would have to become the main page for it to be really important. But then it becomes MySpace or Facebook.
Brian, thanks for pointing out the issue with friend’s sending users to the front page. That happens because that users doesn’t have an upgraded profile yet. When a user upgrades, those links will go directly to their profile page.
HEY LOOK! Xanga’s trying to keep up with My Space and Facebook.
Nifty!!!
<3 it!
We’re not trying to keep up. We’re just doing it better.
Hello Dave!,
I see alot of people has their old sites shut down… well one of my sites got shut down too its called DarkAmyAngel and its because of Violation and my friend had da same problem too. her site is called VietBunnyChan. everyone wants their site restored asap bcuz they luv it soo much yes me and my friend too. we make layouts for people and help them with their xangas. Now we cant because the sites are now shutdown. We really want to continue or else the whole xanga team will be losing members and then everyone will be at MySpace.TagWorld,Friendster,Hi5,Piczo,GeoCities stuff like dat. PLEASE restore all xangas.BTW alot of members have Premium and wasted their money because its shut down. and some people even think all you guys want is MONEY. PLEASE RESTORE ALL SITES ASAP
Thanks!
Amy<3
Dave, if you say you’re doing it better then why is it so much the same? What I love about Xanga and tell all my friends is how Xanga’s so unique. If your going to redo the whole profile page, do it Different, not just better. Otherwise, you’re just conforming and following the cookiecutter. I’m sure it took a lot of work and it’s great. But, I could totally see more business coming your way not just because it has more user customizing ability, but because it’s a different approach to listing your likes and dislikes. All in all, I’ve tried other web-based communities and I love Xanga the best. I only Xanga. I love it’s uniqueness. It’s my virtual blank canvas.
Oh, and if it sounds like I work in advertising, it’s because I do. lol.
.:Loudah:.
I have to agree – it reminds me of MySpace. My Space is creepy and I don’t understand its appeal. I like my Xanga just the way it is. Thanks for giving us a choice in whether or not to update our profiles!
Hi, my friend’s site, “greasyTNT” was shut down due to the age thing. She had the incorrect age listed due to security purposes. I assure you she is over the age of 13. Could you please help to restore her site? Thanks.
How do i sens somebody a nudge? I tried searching xanga Help but nothing is on there!!
I love the new profile options! you guys rock! It’;s ncie to have some premium features for thsoe who upgrade!!
Keep doing what you’re doing and pleas elet me know about the nudge! thanks, Jette
i also vote for having more than one protected list! that would be an awesome option/feature!!
i just want to know how to switch it back to normal once you “upgrade” before you upgradeit doesnt tell you anything, and kinda “hooks” you into it, then i cant seem to get it to go away!.. this friends thing is way too myspace lke, and makes it feel like a competition.. the comments feature on the profile seems pointless.. just comment on my blog. thats the problem with myspace, too many “friends” and stupid lame comments and noone reads the blog, the real me.. and what the hell is a nudge.. i was given one, but i dont know what that means.. too many quirks in this.. AND it erases all i had under my original interests and limits it to very few words. I had to go into the setup wizzard and add it all back and save it that way.. sucks ass! premium users need more beneficail features like more than 1 protected list( i would like to be able to write protected posts to my xanga family as well as my xanga subs, and not have to post.. let 1 group read.. then change the list, post something different.. not all xanga reads the blogs all at the same time…, also we could use better photo organization. that is all for now..
Doesn’t work.
Just keeps asking me to sign in. And sign in. And sign in.
How many times do we need to sign in?.
Whoa, it looks like myspace. o_o
Agreed. It looks too much like MySpace. -_-
the nudge thing disturbs me
*shiver I’ve got a myspace as well, but. . . the difference between myspace and xanga was what I liked the most. Xanga focused on blogging, myspace kind of focuses on messaging.
But I can understand; it’s the whole competition thing.
=] But I have to admit, your profiling system is a million times more efficient & detailed & (omgosh that’s awesome…) than myspace’s. *whimpers in admiration
Oh; about the schools portion, for attended, maybe you should add “present” for the end time period? (Myspace has that too, but it’s not at all a bad idea.)
Hmm. But the friends thing. What’s up with the friends thing? I don’t understand why it’s necessary… isn’t that pretty much the equivalent of having someone who is subscribed to another person’s xanga? Or is it just for the chatroom thing and what not? Ehh. I suppose I’ll figure it out soon or later.
yipes; my apologies. I didn’t realize you could just leave the “end time period” blank. & I take back the comment on the friends thing. I get it now. I’m just doubting that a lot of people will pay any notice of it on my xanga. (Heh.)
oh… more than one protected list is a great idea- PLEASE!!!

I don’t like the new profiles. How can I switch back? PLEASE HELP ME! COMMENT BACK!
how do i downgrade my profile?
Dave, the only problem that I have with the new profiles is that I can’t change my profile description that is shown on blogrings. I have not been able to figure out a way to do this. Other than that, the new profiles are fine.
Thanks Dave, I can now do it!
Things are looking great. Now, let’s have a shuriken war.
For the profiles, that “about me” section that is usually seen in blogrings is gone. Could you put that back? Please and thank you.
I’m begging you, and the rest of Xanga’s staff to create a way for us to downgrade our profiles to the old style. Many users feel that they like the old style better. As nice as the new features are, some of us just prefer the “bare-bones” Xanga.
